Six Nations reaches dramatic climax, no thanks to England

With one dramatic round of Six Nations games still to come this weekend, at least one thing has been conclusively settled – the England team would be better off without any management at all, so all those chumps with their fancy titles should resign with immediate effect and return to the insurance industry or whence they came. In that last shocking performance against Scotland, in which the Director of Elite Performance's notes apparently got mixed up with those of the Head of Utter Incompetence and the Regional Distributor of Purest Shite, it became clear that all this fol-de-rol about four year plans is nothing more than an excuse dreamt up by fat-arsed self-important suited chaps to justify their preposterous salaries. Here's what the English rugby team needs to do – and you don't need a flip chart or a Masters in Athletic Motivational Techniques to put this into effect – watch France and Wales and copy them.

Wales

» The Grand Slam that Wales achieved in 2005 was their first since 1978. They won three championships in between but failed to complete the Grand Slam.

» Wales have won both of their home games at the Millennium Stadium so far this season - they beat Scotland 30-15, and Italy 47-8.

France

» chickendinner superfact: Wales faced France at home in the last game of the 2006 tournament, and the French won 21-16.

» In fact, France have beaten Wales the last five times that the sides have met on Welsh soil.

» Wales haven't beaten France since their last Grand Slam in 2005

» Wales have only won three of their last ten matches against the French.

» Wales haven't beaten the French in Cardiff in this competition since 1996 - that time it was by one point (16-15).

» France are in decent form on the road, winning their last three games on foreign soil.

Any other business

» Despite winning all four of their games Wales have conceded the first points in three of them.

» For those betting on half time/full time Wales have been trailing in two of their games at the break, but have then gone on to win. France’s games have all seen the same result at half time and full time.

» Wales and France have been running in a lot of tries in the Championship, both scoring eleven in their four games.

» For those interested in the handicap market, over their last five meetings together France have won by an average of 8.8 points. In their Six Nations fixtures thus far, Wales have won each game by an average of 16.25 points.
