Why Celtic will win their fourth straight SPL

For ages everyone's called the Scottish Premier League boring because only two teams ever stand a chance of winning it. Well, bad news folks, it looks like things are getting even worse now because even Rangers don't seem capable anymore. Here's why it looks like Celtic will make it four in a row under Gordon Strachan.

» On the three previous occasions where Celtic have won three straight Scottish titles, they have gone on to win a fourth.

» Celtic have won the title in each of the three years that Gordon Strachan has been manager - he also won it in his SPL season prior to that as an Aberdeen player.

» Both Rangers and Celtic would do well to adopt Arsene Wenger's transfer blueprint. The club that has spent the least money of the two has won the title in each of the last eight seasons.

» And that's currently looking like good news for Celtic considering Rangers have already splurged £6 million on Kenny Miller, Andrius Velicka and Kyle Lafferty.

» A different team has finished third in each of the last five seasons: Hearts, Hibernian, Rangers, Aberdeen and Motherwell.

» The team that were the best of the rest last season, Motherwell, finished tenth the season beforehand - could that prove a lucky omen for St Mirren?

» Motherwell spent seven years away from the top five spots in the SPL before finishing third this year, something which again bodes well for St Mirren who have spent their time either fighting relegation to Division One or winning promotion from it.

» Good news for Hamilton Academicals: Three of the last four sides to win promotion have survived their first season. Gretna were the team who failed, last season, and a large number of off-the-field problems contributed to their demise, as shown by their subsequent explusion.
