The betting superfacts for Derby/Manchester United

Derby/Man Utd, 7.45pm, Sky Sports 1, Best Odds, Free Bets

If Derby didn’t already have a tough enough task on their hands overcoming Manchester United over two legs, they have taken a risk by confirming the appointment of Nigel Clough the day before the home leg. This means that caretaker boss Chris Hutchings, who was hoping to get the job full-time, is out of the picture and someone new, academy boss David Lowe, has been forced to take charge of this game at incredibly short notice. Here are the key statistics about tonight’s Pride Park collision:

» While Derby have won on two of their last seven trips to Old Trafford, they have yet taken just a point from their four meetings with them at Pride Park.

» The Rams last home win over the reigning Premier League champions came twenty years ago in August 1989 in a season where Derby did the double over United.

» Derby’s best chance appears to be of drawing, which is available at 10/3 generally. They have drawn five of their last eight home games against Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.

» Excluding the Club World Cup, Manchester United have won just six of their sixteen games away from Old Trafford this season.

» Manchester United haven’t won any of their last three away games in the Carling Cup. They drew the first leg of their 2005-06 semi-final 1-1 at Blackburn, required extra time to conquer Crewe in the third round the following season (1-1 after 90  mins) and then lost 1-0 to Southend in the fourth. Another 1-1 draw is 8/1 with Bet365.

» Carlos Tevez has scored the opening goal in United’s last two Carling Cup games, as well as grabbing five goals in total, two of which came from the penalty spot. He is 5/4 with 888sport to score at anytime and 40/1 to score a hat-trick.

» Derby’s Carling Cup top goalscorer is Nathan Ellington with six goals in four games in the competition, scoring in each game he has figured in. The Duke is 7/2 with Sky Bet to score at anytime.

» The Rams have yet to lose successive home games all season and were beaten 1-0 by Ipswich in their last game at Pride Park.

I am tempted to go with the handicap on Derby, but then again they are struggling very badly and honestly, they do have a crap team. Manchester United will start with Tevez leading the youngsters out who beat Southampton over the weekend, but with him and Ferguson in a massive fallout, why will he try to play at his best? The game will be a no-bet for me.
