The Curious Case of Benjamin Button may steal Best Picture
chickendinner fancies a massive shock to take place at the Oscars
It’s almost unthinkable that the BAFTAs and Oscars could produce identical winners in the six leading categories and for that reason chickendinner anticipates one major upset. The stats suggest that the favourite which is most ripe for a shock is Slumdog Millionaire and that The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which is still 8.6 on Betfair, could gazump it to the big prize:
» The BAFTAs Best Film has only gone on to win Best Picture at the Oscars once in the last seven years.
» What makes that statistic even more worrying is that in three of the last four years, the Golden Globes and BAFTAs have produced the same winner, only for the Academy to choose another film.
» Benjamin Button received thirteen nominations at this year’s awards and seven of the previous ten that have received that number or more have won Best Picture.
