Why Chelsea should go on to finish above Aston Villa now
Five stats about this weekend’s football
1. Aston Villa’s chances of finishing above Chelsea were severely damaged by the Blues completing the double over them. Not since 1993-94, when they beat champions Manchester United twice, have they finished below a team they’ve triumphed over home and away.
2. Blackburn may have ended Manchester United’s clean sheet record but after losing 2-1 they remain one of three clubs, alongside West Brom and Bolton, who have lost all their matches against the “Big Five” this season.
3. West Ham may have scored their second ever goal at the Reebok but they couldn’t avoid their sixth successive league defeat away to Bolton.
4. Since Everton’s run of five wins in six away league games ended they have gone three without a win. They have failed to take advantage of Arsenal’s blip, taking one point less than the Gunners from their last five games.
5. When Juande Ramos arrived at Real Madrid, they had won just two of their previous six league games. Since a loss to Barcelona in his opening game, the former Spurs boss has won nine consecutive matches, conceding just two goals in the process.
