The Premier League’s a lot poorer this afternoon following the dismissal of Phil Brown as Hull manager, but there’s no room for sentiment in betting, so we’ve already moved on to looking at who’ll be next through the door.

The joint-favourites at 5/2 with Paddy Power to succeed the Humber Bridge Hero are Gary Megson and Alan Curbishley, who both have recent

Stats for all of this weekend’s Premier League matches

For Man Utd/Arsenal stats, check out our Correct Score wizard

Baffled by Sky’s decision to broadcast a nothing match between Chelsea and Blackburn over games that will have a huge impact on the relegation battle and the race for seventh, we’ve decided to instead publish a stat for every league match taking place this weekend:

Bolton v Hull
Gary Megson’s side are unbeaten at home to sides below them in the table and have won their final league game at the Reebok in three of the last four years.

Everton v West Ham
The Toffees have lost just one of their last 13 home games in all competitions while West Ham haven’t beaten a top-six side all season.

Middlesbrough v Aston Villa

Another nil-nil to the Arsenal

Five stats about this weekend’s football

1. Arsenal had gone 58 home league games without experiencing a goalless draw before their recent run of three consecutive 0-0s.

2. Mark Hughes’ Manchester City have lost eight of their fourteen Premier League away games this season (57%). The Welshman lost just six of his last 22 away games while manager of Blackburn (27%).

3. Since branding the Bolton fans who were abusing him “pathetic” after the 2-2 draw at Blackburn, Gary Megson’s Bolton have won three out of four matches to move into the top half.

Three games without defeat might not impress Man United or Liverpool fans but for Newcastle a successful February has helped ease relegation fears significantly. However Bolton, who are 11/10 with 888sport and Ladbrokes, are likely to ensure a miserable start to March for the Magpies:

» Bolton have won five of their last six home games against Newcastle, with their only loss coming on the opening day of last season when they had Sammy Lee as manager.

» Gary Megson’s side have won their last two league home games against Tottenham and West Ham, who are both above Newcastle in the league.

» Wanderers are unbeaten in seven home games with teams outside the top eight - winning five and drawing two.

Stats for all eight Premier League fixtures (Part One)

Tony Adams and Mark Hughes make returns to former clubs

Arsenal v Portsmouth
Tony Adams returns to Arsenal for the first time as a manager and will take confidence from the fact four of the last five meetings between the two sides have finished level. However, Portsmouth haven’t beaten Arsenal for over fifty years and last won away there in 1955. The South Coast have lost their last three league matches and have won two of eleven since Harry Redknapp left for Tottenham while Arsenal are unbeaten in five league games - their longest spell this season.

Blackburn v Manchester City
Manchester City have now gone eight domestic away games without winning and the fact they have lost their last four visits to Ewood Park doesn’t bode well for Mark Hughes’ first return to Blackburn. City last achieved successive wins in August while Blackburn have yet to concede under Sam Allardyce.

Bolton v Wigan

Keane and Ince’s struggles make for intriguing betting

Vulnerable managers drift out in the next manager to go market

Roy Keane is now 4/7 with SkyBet to be the next Premier League manager to leave their post and Paul Ince is not far behind at 9/4 - meaning that some other vulnerable bosses are reaching big prices.

Things are going badly at Sunderland but they have more points than they had at this stage last season and will do even if they lose their next four games. There is a danger of Roy Keane quitting but it seems unlikely that Niall Quinn will make the rash decision to sack his compatriot at this stage because while there is a sense that they are underperforming for the money spent, they were going nowhere before Keane arrived.
